Crane Penguin Shark ESP Air Purifiers Review and Numbers Analysis
Crane is a company based out of Chicago, Illinois. Air purification is not their primary focus but they do carry a series of air purifiers along with their humidifier line. Crane air cleaners are characterized by their appeal to children. These purifiers take on different animal shapes. Each humidifier model is a different animal or cartoon like character in look. This is the same for their air purifier. Crane carries two models that have this look; the Penguin and the Shark purifiers. They also carry an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) Model that has a more traditional look to it.
The Penguin and Shark models are hybrid systems that combine HEPA filtration with photo-catalytic oxidation. They are small purifiers covering 50 square feet. The ESP model covers up to 230 square feet. They range in cost between 48.5 cents for the ESP system to $2.43 per square foot of air cleaned per year. The Penguin and Shark models cost about $1214.10 to use over 10 years. This isn't bad for 10 years of use until you consider it only has the capability to cover a small room of 50 square feet.
The draw of the Penguin and Shark models is that they are great for a child's room and could easily fit in with the look and feel of a child's bedroom. This is their purpose and many customers have bought it for this very reason. It was not designed to address serious air quality conditions, but rather to provide a moderate level of air cleaning while looking cute at the same time. This is one of those air purifiers that gets bad reviews when a customer buys it with the wrong expectations.
Alorair storm pro commercial dehumidifier covers a larger area but there is a lack of information on how small the particles it is able to remove are. The company backs these air purifiers with a one-year industry minimum standard warranty. An air purifier like one of these will probably need to be replaced every two years, if not sooner. This purifier also has a low-cost benefit ratio. There are other purifiers that will provide a better value based on cost and performance.
These are the only purifiers to our knowledge that cater to children in design. Their uniqueness is their market. They do what they are designed for, but it's probably not what you need. On the other hand, if you have a small child, it just might be a cute addition to his room while also keeping the air clean.
